Dear friends of Culture,

Yesterday I was able to be in the very north of the island again, with a view of the magnificent volcano, which seems to have come from a picture book, with the name ‘Corona’, which, admittedly, has now become quite familiar. Here it stands for the crown, the coronation. The Famara massif, on which it stands, is considered the oldest part of the island, which then grew together with the southern Ajaches to form Lanzarote. The soil is ochre-coloured, and clouds that bring moisture and shade, which sometimes remain suspended between 400 and 600 metres above sea level, are kind to the plant life. At present, yellow tanger Reichardias stretch their heads towards the sun, along with daisies, purple Echium lancerottense, Limonium bourgeaui... With these names, which are difficult to remember and do not create images, but can be looked up, I would like to invite you to see the variety of native plants here, with their very own subspecies, but also endemic ones among them. It's amazing!

The personal highlights of my walk were a small hermit bee, which repeatedly slipped under my shoe, curious and brave. Perhaps looking for a shady nesting place. And finally, a majestic Houbara bustard, which rose into the air at close range with its large wings, which, it should be noted, can have a span of up to 170 cm.

I am often amazed at how many people visit Lanzarote without having an eye for the life here and I console myself by imagining that they may just have little time to get to know the island. Time in which they want to see as much as possible, quickly getting out of the rental car for a landscape picture or a selfie, only to drive to the next spot immediately. Perhaps they will get a first impression and then come back to really look around and linger.

Especially now that spring has finally come around here again.

With sunny greetings
